Meet our new columnists MÖY from Istanbul- two amazing guys involved with yoga and so on....
A) What exactly are YOU doing in those days and who are you basically?
Özgür: Basically I am ‘Ö’ of MÖY; These days I am working on my body, trying fix my hip injuries which I have a solid relationship for couple of months, and trying to find different ways to tell her that this relationship served me enough, and I learnt my lessons, and trying to convince them to move on different ways. Hopefully soon we will have a peaceful break up. Other than that I am busy with enjoying my days, and take them as they come to me, meet new people, teach little bit of yoga, and do my best to spread the love I accumulated within me.
Michel: I am the part ‘M’ to the MÖY equation, and I would like to say: the Y stands not only for Yoga, but also for all of ‘YOU’. I have been for a bit longer now in a state of rest, after I’ve finished my Fashion-Master and the Turkish-languaged short movie, haha. Unfortunately my physical Yoga part is skipped for now since I am acting like a lazy boy and reading too much books about the Dalai Lama, from Gandhi and the real – and pretty boring – Kamasutra… ;-) But from today on I will keep practicing also through my body no matter how hard my body and mind wants to stay lazy, promise!!!
B) So You’re both doing Yoga, why and when did you start it?
Özgür: I started practicing yoga when I was 29 years old, I had no desire or knowledge about yoga, one day at the gym, me working out, my ex girlfriend asked me to join to a yoga class with her, and BOOOOM!!! Everything started in that 10 minutes, I realized that I was doing similar poses when I was a kid, but as the kids around me making fun of me I stopped doing them, since that class, I believe I have attended to more than 1000 classes in 5 years.
Michel: Less then two years ago our mutual sweet friend Hanna started teaching me a few Yoga poses in my student’s room and gave me insights in the concepts behind Yoga. I was totally obsessed with it already in the beginning. So, I can also relate to this BOOOOM moment, too: At first, it was a rather physical thing, I need to admit, since I saw my potential six pack in the coming, hahaha, but that ideal is gone now. Nowadays I see there’s much more to it, of course. Already then, when I directly started with a daily practice it gave me focus and calmed me down so much – even during examination phase.
C) What is that whole thing with MÖY about?
Özgür: MÖY started itself, us posting our photos on Facebook, people liking our photos, receiving some very positive and encouraging feedbacks… The social media expert of MÖY, Michel started the facebook page, and the digital journey of MÖY started.
Michel: Yeah, … and I clearly remember how we both got to know each other in the studio in Cihangir Yoga / Istanbul: You or me waiting for the other in the waiting room, blocking the elevator with the foot, and so on… That has changed – now for Yoga we’re always right in time, but still being the ones to stay longest in class after class, working additionally on poses.
D) What are your personal and collective plans for the future?
Özgür: My plan is to keep teaching yoga as much as I can, if conditions appear, maybe teach abroad, and settle down somewhere more exotic and maiden with my amazingly talented artist partner Gabster, and see other parts of the world. If I can do this without shaking my foundation, I am sure I can build a happy life. My plan is to be happy, and keep doing and teaching Yoga, traveling, meeting new people, and creating a platform where/which I can influence other people, maybe a retreat place or a yoga school called MÖY. We will see, now I am just enjoying the ride.
Michel: Right now, I am in the planning stage of my biggest journey that is starting in Germany and leading me (hitch-)hiking through many, many countries such as the whole Balkan region, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and eventually towards India, where I am planning of doing one more Yoga teacher’s training. Oh, and on my way I am looking forward to be teaching and being taught in Yoga. From there on - I feel like - I could either settle down for a bit or even keep going further around teaching. But Yoga and MÖY shall always be the music in the back of my head to which I wanna dance, teach, love and laugh and inspire people to do so.
- And, why Özgür did you again speak out loud our secret plans, haha… :-D
